As hosts of HISTORY series American Pickers, Wolfe and Fritz have come across a wide array of premium picks in their years traveling the country, but rarely have they come across a find as monumental as this one.

He has plenty of experience and plenty of talent. When someone needs a permanent or fill-in drummer, his name is in the top of the list. Tuck is well known, not as a fancy percussionist, but his rock steady clock-like rhythm is a joy for anyone playing with him, especially the bass player. At the time of this writing, Tuck could be heard in the church praise band, with Wayne Mefford and his daughter, Angel's group, and he spends time in the studios in the area, working with Roy Dockery, Bill Jones and me.
Currently, he is laying drum tracks whenever needed on a new CD that I am working on with Jay Corder. Tuck spent most of his working life as a police officer, either with the Norton Police Department or with the Wise County Sheriff's Department as a special investigator. He is now retired but still loves to play music.
I miss his good humor and his devotion and love for good music. It was a joy just to sit and talk about and listen to the best of music with him. He maintained a good sound system and a good variety of the best music on albums, tapes and cds. He always seemed to enjoy my company. Lucian loved to play in dance and entertainment venues, and even started as many of us did, in high school. One of the projects we did together was an album that we recorded of his very excellent high school Concert and Jazz band at J.
Kelly High School. The taping was done at a concert featuring his Jazz Band and also featuring the great local artist, Glenn Smith. His major instrument was the trombone, and he had a very unique style which was "syrupy" and appealing. I hope Lucian Priode will be remembered as not only a musician, but also as one of the finest music educators ever to pass our way.
Guy Lucian Priode was born Jan. Kelly High School, having received accolades and awards for his work at innumerable levels. He was a wonderfully talented person. However, part of his talent was cracking everyone up. He had such a "cool" sense of humor. I believe he was the original "Fonzie". When Priode was growing up, the radio waves were filled with hit numbers by The Drifters and The Temptations. And, I still do. I'll always remember this moment.
This is special. Lucian Priode. All band members marching in the parades wore a black ribbon to honor the memory of Lucian, who had just passed away on November 28 due to illness. It was the hope of the band to honor his memory and to rekindle memories with citizens in all towns in Wise County, the impact of Mr. Lucian Priode on music programs at J. Kelly High School and Wise County. The J. Kelly Band Director and educator Lucian Priode.

They play at the Dock Boggs Festival each year. His contributions to education and good ole mountain music are phenomenal. Ole Joe Smiddy, and so will your name!
Glenn grew up in Norton and attended high school there. He was in the high school band and also was a very good athlete. Glenn was in the army band overseas. He returned to Norton and worked in the post office until he retired. He is remembered for his great sound on alto sax, but he is also noted for piano and for his band arrangments.
His style is rooted in jazz, stage music and big band. I remember Glenn as one of my best friends. He was my mentor and teacher, always encouraging and helping me to grow musically.
He is one of the finest human beings I ever knew! Glenn's life story is both sad and happy. He loved his family, and was very proud of all of his children. Music was one of his greatest joys. He loved to listen, play, share, teach, arrange, and talk about music. This biography is a story about some of Glenn's musical career.
Glenn Smith was my most important music teacher. I was immediately taken by his manner. He struck me as a very easy going fellow with a great deal of consideration for others. And he was cool! Glenn was definitely not a rock 'n roller but over the years he became proficient in all types of popular music and exceptional in jazz. He was writer, arranger, performer and functional musician extraordinaire.
